Steps to Buying a Home
Get pre-approved:
Talk to a lender about what your budget should be for purchasing your home. If you’re not sure which lender to use, Stephanie has a database of great local lenders that specialize in New Orleans area real estate. The lender will be able to give you an idea of how much house you can afford. When presenting an offer on a home, it is important to have this letter to show sellers you are already prequalified. The lender will also give you an idea of how much of a down payment you will need and how much your monthly note will be.
Finding the perfect home:
Choosing a local realtor that can help you find the right home is key. A realtor can offer insight into different neighborhoods to help make your decision easier. Realtors are experts in the home buying process and help to ensure a smooth transaction for all parties involved.
Presenting your offer:
Your agent will research similar homes in the neighborhood that have recently sold to come up with a fair price. Once you and your agent have a plan in place, your agent will present your offer to the listing agent.
Inspection period:
After your offer is accepted, your agent will help arrange different inspections on your new home. It is important to get your home inspected so that you can ask for repairs or know what you are buying before fully committing.
Closing:
Congratulations on the purchase of your new home! The closing will be handled by a title company or escrow company. Your real estate agent will remain in contact with them throughout the process to stay on track to close on your new home!
